1000 Fulham fans send "take us home" cards to Al Fayed

Back To The Cottage Press Release - 28/12/02

Fulham fans' organisation, BacktotheCottage.com, will today present Mohammed Al Fayed, the Chairman of Fulham Football Club, with more than one thousand Christmas cards before Fulham’s Premiership fixture with Manchester City at Loftus Road.

The Christmas card style leaflets, which were distributed to Fulham fans outside Craven Cottage earlier this month, ask Mohammed Al Fayed to take Fulham Football Club "back to the Cottage as soon as possible".

BacktotheCottage.com, an umbrella campaign group supported and run by the independent Fulham Supporters’ Club and other fans’ organisations, are presenting the cards after last week’s statement from Fulham Football Club effectively abandoning the stadium plans for which Fulham achieved planning permission last year.

Tom Greatrex, of BacktotheCottage.com, said "Fulham fans want to go back to Craven Cottage as soon as possible. Last week’s statement from Fulham Football Club makes it even more important to ensure Mohammed Al Fayed knows how strongly fans feel on this issue. As he himself has said, "it has always been, and always will be, vital for Fulham Football Club to remain at its historic riverside home."

He added: "The Chairman has a responsibility to keep to his promise to Fulham fans, and take us back to our historic home as soon as possible. To safeguard the long-term future of the Club, it is vital that new plans for a simpler, and cheaper, redevelopment of the Craven Cottage site are submitted to the local authority. Anything less will be seen as a betrayal by many Fulham fans."
