Fulham fans’ group:
“take us home” – pre-match demonstration Back To The Cottage Press Release - 17/01/03
Fulham fans’ group, BacktotheCottage.com, will be staging a pre-match demonstration outside Loftus Road on Sunday, ahead of Fulham’s match against Middlesbrough on Sunday 19 January. Fans will congregate outside the main entrance in South Africa Road from 2.45pm – with a very simple message to Fulham Football Club – “take us home”. Fulham fans are being asked to turn up with banners and flags to make clear to the Club that they want to return to a rebuilt stadium on the Craven Cottage site, following the press revelations this week that a contract has been agreed between Fulham Football Club and Fulham River Projects Limited to potentially redevelop the site as a Harrods branded luxury housing development. Tom Greatrex, spokesman for BacktotheCottage.com, said: “The revelations this week have proved worrying for many Fulham fans who are concerned over the future of our historic riverside home, Craven Cottage. A spokesperson for Fulham Football Club has said this week that a simpler redevelopment of the Craven Cottage site is one of the options still being explored.” “Fulham fans have been promised that we would return to Craven Cottage, and our groundshare at Loftus Road, was only to facilitate rebuilding work. We want the Club to keep to their commitment – and get Fulham back to where we belong, at our historic riverside home. That is the most sensible option, and is in the interests of both the Club and fans” “I hope that the Club will listen to fans asking to take us home before the game, and that fans will support the Club on the pitch during the game.” ENDS
